What Aston Villa fans can expect on deadline day – ins, outs and done deals

Aston Villa could be set for a busy deadline day after a largely frustrating window.

The Villans have had a disappointing start to the new Premier League season under Unai Emery, compounded by Villa’s defeat away to Brentford.

Villa summer signing Evan Guessand made his debut in the capital, remaining the only senior outfield signing at this point of the window at Villa Park.

This has been due to UEFA’s financial rules, with any big-money changes halted at Villa due to the risk of a further fine or potential ban from European competition.

With that being said, incoming and outgoing deals are still expected before the 7pm deadline on 1 September, with Villa News rounding up everything the B6 faithful can expect before the end of the window.

Done Deals at Aston Villa

As mentioned before, signings have been few and far between for Monchi and Co. this summer.

This first saw Marco Bizot complete a Villa switch from Brest, representing the new second-choice goalkeeper after Robin Olsen’s exit.

It took many weeks after the Dutchman’s arrival to welcome Guessand, with the highly rated Ivorian joining from OGC Nice back in early August.

Since then, there have been quiet rumours in between long periods of radio silence, before a Villa swoop for Victor Lindelof looked set to go through.

The swoop for the experienced Swede has come out of nowhere but looks likely to be completed either before or even on deadline day.

Victor Lindelof is an experienced signing for Aston Villa

The man released by Manchester United at the end of the season is undergoing a medical at Bodymoor Heath ahead of the Villa Park clash against Crystal Palace.

This could see Lindelof become Emery’s third summer signing and represent much-needed squad depth as a right-footed defensive option.

Ins – Diogo Costa and Lucas Paqueta

There looks likely to be a need for a new number one keeper in the Midlands, which we will get onto shortly.

This could leave a gap for Villa to bring in Costa from Porto after already entering advanced negotiations with the Portgual international.

He would represent a massive coup and a real statement of intent from the Villans after such a disappointing window to this point.

Similarly, the signing of Paqueta from West Ham would also be seen as an excellent piece of business among the wider footballing world.

In the attacking areas of the field, the attacking midfielder would represent useful strength in depth after a blunt start to the season from the claret and blue outfit.

Having failed to score against either Newcastle or Brentford, the Brazilian could join on loan with an obligation to buy before the 7pm deadline on Monday evening.

Outs – Emi Martinez and Emi Buendia

It could be the end of the road in B6 for the two Emi’s after contrasting spells for the duo in claret and blue.

Martinez finally appears likely to seal a move to Manchester United after months of speculation, after he cried on the Villa Park pitch after a win against Tottenham.

This could ultimately open the door for Costa to come in from Porto, but one deal won’t happen without the other at this late stage of the window.

The keeper’s fellow countryman Buendia could be set to follow out the doors at Bodymoor Heath after once again becoming a bit-part player under Emery.

Despite a positive pre-season, it looks as if his race his run with a return to the Bundesliga potentially on the cards before the window ends.
