Unai Emery lines up another Aston Villa signing after Marco Asensio as agreement update shared

Aston Villa have found it hard to add the players to take their squad to the next level so far this summer.

The Villans have been operating against a backdrop of PSR concerns that have seriously limited their ability to invest significant amounts of money in the squad.

Evann Guessand and Marco Bizot are Villa’s only new additions at first-team level so far this summer, and they would have surely been hoping for more when they missed out on Champions League football at the end of last term.

Unai Emery’s side have endured a stuttering start to the season, but they could be about to get a late boost before Monday’s upcoming deadline.

Marco Asensio agreement problematic as Aston Villa eye two signings

Villa are getting ever closer to re-signing Marco Asensio on a permanent basis, with a £12.9million offer already on the table for their former loanee.

PSG are holding out for a fee of around £17.2m, but both parties are optimistic that a positive ending can be reached within the next few days.

The Spanish star could be part of a late flurry of activity in B6, with Emery understood to be keen to add at least two new faces to his squad in the coming days, according to the print edition of The Mirror (30 August, pg. 68).

The boss is keen to hand his squad a boost in the final days of the window, but is understood to only be interested in players who will improve his team.

A deal to bring Asensio back to Villa Park is still in the pipeline, although reaching an agreement with his parent club is proving to be a challenge for the Premier League outfit.

Unai Emery needs attacking reinforcements

Villa have submitted an offer of £21.6m for Georges Mikautadze, with a new striker seemingly high on the list of priorities ahead of the imminent deadline.

The Villans have also shown an interest in the Chelsea duo of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku of late, as Emery appears keen to bolster his attack before the cut-off.

They are one of just two Premier League sides who are yet to find the back of the net after their opening two games, and have looked surprisingly blunt in the final third.

Securing Asensio’s return would be a good way to round off the window, and if they can add to that with another attacking player of genuine quality, then it could be what is needed to help unlock their potential as a side.
