Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers sends message as West Brom confirm new transfer

Morgan Rogers spent nine years with West Brom before making the switch to Manchester City.

Despite earning his move to the Citizens, Rogers had to go the long way round to earn himself Premier League football as he joined Middlesbrough following a series of loan moves.

One year after joining Boro, he joined Aston Villa, but he has continued to stay in touch with his former teammates.

Rogers is subject to transfer interest from Tottenham and Arsenal this summer, and he has now sent a message to one of his former teammates who has completed a transfer of their own.

Morgan Rogers sends Chris Mepham two-word message as transfer announced

The transfer window is beginning to heat up as deadline day approaches.

Aston Villa could still lose Rogers, with Lucas Paqueta lined up as a possible alternative. Elsewhere, Villa’s rivals West Brom are making plenty of moves of their own.

The Championship side have announced the signing of defender Chris Mepham from Bournemouth in a deal worth £1.5million.

Rogers previously played with the 27-year-old during his short and unsuccessful loan spell with Bournemouth in the 2021/22 season.

That season, the Cherries finished second and were promoted back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

After Mepham was announced by West Brom, Rogers reposted, saying “My Brother,” followed by three heart eye emojis.

Mepham is a strong new signing for The Albion and Emery will be looking to follow in the Baggies’ footsteps in signing new players towards the end of the window.

Aston Villa have so far spent just £20million on Evann Guessand, but they could begin their spending should they be forced to sell more of their stars.

How much money Aston Villa could make from Morgan Rogers’ sale

Aston Villa signed Rogers for just £15million in January 2024.

The forward has now been linked with a potential £80-100million move, which would be a significant profit for Villa given their troubles with Profit and Sustainability rules.

However, Middlesbrough have a 20% sell-on clause from when they sold Rogers.

Therefore, Emery’s side will likely hold out for a fee more towards £100million, meaning they would get a £65million profit.

The Villans can’t leave it too late to sell the 23-year-old, as the closer it gets to deadline day, the harder it will be to find a replacement.
