Aston Villa set to learn Adrien Rabiot transfer fate after what Didier Deschamps has said

Aston Villa have had a relatively quiet transfer window so far when it comes to arrivals.

Evann Guessand is Unai Emery‘s only marquee signing so far this summer, despite Aston Villa being linked to other notable names such as Nicolas Jackson.

This staleness in the transfer window is perhaps partially to blame for Villa’s lacklustre start to the Premier League campaign, with the Villans sitting on one point from their opening two fixtures.

Adrien Rabiot has also been linked with Villa, with the French midfielder also being the subject of interest from Tottenham, and now his national team manager, Didier Deschamps, has commented on the situation.

Didier Deschamps reveals Adrien Rabiot situation ‘has not been easy’ for the midfielder

Rabiot, 30, is a seasoned international for France, winning 53 caps under Deschamps.

After Rabiot was transfer-listed by Marseille after a reported bust-up with Jonathan Rowe, Deschamps had this to say regarding the midfielder’s future on Monday.

“I’ve spoken with him several times, I’m not going to go into detail. He’s done his preparation, the friendlies, the first match… What happened happened. The situation isn’t easy for him,” he said.

“The only thing is that by Monday, it will be resolved, I don’t know in what sense. When it takes on such media proportions, with different people speaking out. I’m not going to say who’s right and who’s wrong.”

The French manager continued: “I care about Adrien because of what he’s done with us and what he’s capable of doing. It was important for me to know his state of mind before these two important matches. It’s good that he’s here for these matches.”

Despite the controversy regarding his behaviour, in a pure footballing sense, Rabiot is coming off the back of a fine campaign in Ligue 1 with Marseille.

Rabiot also has experience playing for other elite clubs in Europe, with the midfielder having previous spells at PSG and Juventus.

Either way, Villa will get their answer on whether or not Rabiot is joining in the next three days.

What has Adrien Rabiot previously said about playing in the Premier League?

Despite playing for some European giants during his time on the continent, the prospect of playing in the Premier League has seemingly always appealed to Rabiot.

Rabiot has spoken about his desire to play in England’s top-flight as recently as this year, when the midfielder said during an interview with The Athletic: “English football is very attractive,

“Everyone knows that it’s the best league and the football it produces is a spectacle every weekend. There are lots of very good teams, and the league is uncertain.”

The Frenchman has previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, but now it is up to NSWE and Co. to pitch to the experienced midfielder why becoming a part of Emery’s engine room would be the best way Rabiot could fulfil his ambition of playing in England.
