What Unai Emery has already said about Marco Asensio ahead of Aston Villa return

Marco Asensio is seemingly edging closer to signing for Aston Villa again.

Asensio joined Villa on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the winter and went on to have a productive spell alongside fellow loanee Marcus Rashford after his move from Manchester United.

Although the England international has now moved elsewhere, Unai Emery could be set to welcome the ex-Real Madrid star back to Villa Park this summer.

This comes after a turbulent window for Asensio, after talks with Fenerbahce stalled, leaving the door open for Monchi and Co. to sweep in.

As a return to B6 now looks likely for Asensio, questions will be raised about what Emery made of the attacking midfielder in his first loan spell.

Unai Emery loves Marco Asensio

Zinedine Zidane claims Asensio’s left foot beats Lionel Messi’s, something which just sums up exactly how good the Spain international is.

There is no hiding away from the quality that the 29-year-old possesses and can add to the claret and blue outfit if he is to return.

As a result, there is widespread excitement about the potential return of the attacking midfielder, especially after a dreadful start to the Premier League campaign.

Supporters are buzzing, a feeling which is likely to be echoed by Emery and his coaching staff after an excellent first spell on loan from PSG.

This saw Asensio mainly play as a number 10, but was able to feature across the front line, something that wasn’t lost on the Villa boss.

Speaking after the Spaniard scored a brace against Chelsea, as transcribed by the Independent (22 February), Emery said: “Marco is a very good player, playing as a number 10, he can get assists and score goals. Today was very good.”

The head coach also suggested, as per Birmingham Live (15 February), “He is maybe the most versatile player in our squad.”

This just goes to show the level of admiration held for the PSG man at Villa Park, something which will only continue into the new campaign.

Aston Villa need Marco Asensio impact and quick

After such a stale start to the campaign, there is no getting away from the fact that fresh faces are needed in B6 right now.

As a result, a new signing who already has that relationship with everyone at Bodymoor Heath could prove to be a wise move for all parties.

There will be hope of getting a deal over the line for Asensio well before the 1 September transfer deadline.

If that can be done, it could prove to be the perfect boost ahead of what is bound to be a difficult night against Crystal Palace in B6.
