Unai Emery boosted by Marcus Rashford signing at Aston Villa

Aston Villa are set for a blockbuster end to the winter transfer window with at least one player expected to follow Rashford through the doors at Villa Park.

The Birmingham-based club made a positive start to the window by signing Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for an initial sum of £19million [BBC].

With Rashford’s signing expected to be announced imminently, Unai Emery is set to have serious options in attack for the second half of the season despite selling Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr.

The Villans are also on course to sign Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to Fabrizio Romano.

Like Rashford, Asensio will add a significant amount of experience to the Villa squad, enabling them to compete on all fronts, including the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also working to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window slams shut on Monday (3 February) evening.

While the defender has agreed to join the Spanish tactician’s side, Tottenham’s interest in signing the defender has seen the transfer hit a roadblock.

Monchi will be hopeful of unlocking that deal in the final hours of the window.
