Andy Townsend would be ‘staggered’ if Unai Emery sold ‘wonderful’ Aston Villa star

Aston Villa fans may have some nervy days coming up in the final days of the transfer window.

Aston Villa spent around £30million on Evann Guessand, but only two other players have arrived, with Yasin Ozcan leaving on loan to Anderlecht after sealing his transfer to Villa Park.

While Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Beier is also a target for Villa, the Lions need to sell someone first due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

The B6 club have already sold the beloved Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United, and will not want to lose any more of their key players before 1 September.

Morgan Rogers can’t be sold by Aston Villa

Andy Townsend doesn’t want to see Villa sell Morgan Rogers this summer.

The former Villan would be “staggered” if a bid is accepted for the 23-year-old at Villa Park, with Deadline Day fast approaching.

Townsend feels the England international will be influential to the B6 club’s success this season, as they look to get back into the Champions League and potentially lift some silverware.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 27 August (16:53), the ex-midfielder said: “I’d be staggered if Rogers went out the door because he is key, crucial to how well Villa do this year.”

Tottenham could force NSWE hand at Villa Park

Tottenham have made Rogers their priority target for the ongoing transfer window after missing out on Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and ex-Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze.

The midfielder has been a large part of Emery’s plans at the Villans over the years, shining in their Champions League run last season, and also impressing with the Three Lions, with Glenn Hoddle calling the youngster’s performance against Latvia on 24 March “wonderful” on talkSPORT.

With the versatile playmaker sealing his place in the Lions’ starting lineup, only a significant offer could potentially force NSWE to think about the Englishman’s departure.

Villa fans were heartbroken seeing Ramsey play for Newcastle, and it certainly won’t be pretty losing Rogers this summer as well.

Emery’s record in the Europa League should give some supporters hope of being one of the favourites in the competition, but the England attacking-midfielder’s sale will definitely affect those chances.

The Lions have started poorly in the Premier League, and things will arguably get even more challenging if they can’t rely on Rogers.
