Aston Villa now in advanced talks to sell player Unai Emery was ‘delighted’ to sign

Aston Villa are expected to be active going into the final days of the transfer window.

Over the past week, Unai Emery has been overseeing sales at Villa Park.

Leander Dendoncker was finally moved on to Real Oviedo, while Jacob Ramsey was sold to Newcastle United.

However, departures are not set to end here as Emery remains determined to rid himself of Villa’s outcasts.

Alex Moreno in advanced talks to join Girona

Alex Moreno is no longer in Emery’s plans at Aston Villa

After featuring regularly in his first 18 months at the B6 club, the left-back fell out of favour and was loaned out to Nottingham Forest last season.

Therefore, Villa have been working on a Moreno sale this summer.

It was previously reported that Girona had agreed a £1.7million fee for Moreno with Villa.

Now, according to Sport on 21 August, the Catalan club are in advanced talks to sign the left-back and are closing in on the signing.

This is a quick turnaround from 2023, when Emery was ecstatic about signing Moreno.

“Alex is a good player that can help our squad,” Emery told Aston Villa on 11 January 2023.

“He has been one of the top left-backs in La Liga over the past few seasons, and we are delighted to have him here.”

Monchi has performed a miracle selling Alex Moreno

The fact that Aston Villa are getting a fee for Moreno is extremely impressive.

The Spaniard’s contract is up next year, and Girona could have simply waited 12 months to get the left-back on a free.

Even then, Villa were considering terminating Moreno’s contract if a buyer could not be found before the end of the transfer window.

Therefore, Monchi has performed a miracle to not only avoid this scenario, but also to get a solid fee for the full-back.
