Aston Villa set to complete transfer ‘no-brainer’ as Marco Asensio ‘on the brink’ of return
Aston Villa could be on the verge of re-signing Marco Asensio.
The Spanish star caught the eye last season during a loan stint at Villa Park that saw him notch eight goals from just 21 appearances in all competitions.
Asensio has been heavily linked with a Villa return in the last few weeks, after PSG have made it clear that he will not be part of their plans moving forward.
Unai Emery’s side struggled to create clear-cut chances in their opening day stalemate, bu they could be about to receive a welcome boost to their attacking ranks.

Aston Villa backed to seal ‘easy’ Asensio deal
Villa may have had their spending unlocked by Jacob Ramsey after he sealed a move to Newcastle recently.
The second city outfit have been facing PSR constraints since the start of the summer, but that sale may have opened the door to secure further incomings.
Ramsey’s exit looks set to have handed the Villans the boost that they needed to complete Asensio’s signing, with the 29-year-old now “on the brink” of a return to B6, according to CaughtOffside.
Monchi and Co. are now preparing an offer of around £12.9million to seal the deal, while the forward has already agreed personal terms over the move.
Ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that it should be a straightforward move for his former employers to secure Asensio’s signature on a permanent basis.
“It’s an absolute no-brainer,” King said.
“I’m surprised that this deal wasn’t done a month ago.
“I think Asensio is a very good player, and if you can bring in a player of that quality for that kind of price, then get out there and do it, because it’s an easy deal.
“Villa are strong in nearly every other department.”

Asensio will provide a huge boost for Villa
Asensio’s return would provide a major boost for Villa, given the numbers that he produced during his brief stint with them last term.
- Asensio hit three goals in nine Premier League starts in 2024/25
- His final tally of 0.65 goals per 90 across all competitions was higher than Ollie Watkins
- Villa are readying a bid of £12.9m to bring him back
The former Real Madrid star’s stats would have been even more impressive had he not missed two penalties in the same Premier League game, and there will be big hopes for him across a full season if the Villans can strike a deal to bring him back.
Their opening day display hinted that additional creative options may be useful for Emery, and now he could be about to receive one of the finest quality.
