Jacob Ramsey has handed Aston Villa one final boost as he bids farewell to Villa Park.

Ramsey was missed during Villa's goalless draw to Newcastle United in their opening Premier League game.

Unai Emery stated that Ramsey would not feature against the Magpies before the game. This comes as the midfielder prepares for a new life in Newcastle.

Ramsey was a staple in the Villans' midfield last season and will be a huge miss moving forward. However, the Englishman has been kind enough to leave a sizeable parting gift for his childhood club.

Ramsey to "unlock" Marco Asensio transfer

This comes after Asensio was loaned to Villa from PSG for the remainder of last season. Villa confirmed on Sunday, 17 August, that Ramsey had completed his transfer to the Magpies in a move which could help seal the deal for the Villans.

As reported by CaughtOffside on Sunday, 17 August, Villa are on the "brink" of securing the permanent signing of Asensio from PSG. It is understood that the Premier League club are preparing an offer worth up to £12.9million.

  • Asensio has played for Mallorca, PSG, Real Madrid, Espanyol and Villa
  • The forward made his senior debut with Mallorca's reserves during the 2013/14 season

The move has been made financially possible through Ramsey's transfer. Reports suggest that Villa are set to receive £39million for Ramsey from his transfer to Newcastle this summer.

This will free up squad space and transfer funds to unlock the chance for the Villans to confirm Asensio's arrival.

Will Asensio play a similar role for Villa this season?

Asensio spent much of his time at Villa behind the striker, creating from the midfield. This is a role that he will likely reassume if he returns to Villa Park this summer.

Villa's draw against Newcastle saw Yoane Tielemans occupy that role, while Amadou Onana took on a deeper role. Asensio's arrival should see Tielemans pushed back to make way for the PSG midfielder.

While his transfer to Villa is not guaranteed, Asensio will be a massive boost if signed.
