Supercomputer predicts Aston Villa vs Newcastle United result
Aston Villa get their 2025-26 Premier League campaign up and running with a home match against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Villa narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, with Newcastle ironically pipping them to it.
While not quite the ultimate revenge, Saturday’s early kick-off at Villa Park at least presents a chance for Villa to lay down an early marker.
Alexander Isak has been confirmed as out for Newcastle, while Villa have some fresh new faces they could unleash against the Magpies.

Aston Villa made favourites to beat Newcastle United
Newcastle have not had the finest of pre-seasons both on and off the field, with Isak’s future dominating the gossip columns.
Villa had a mixed bag of results during pre-season, with a 2-0 win over Villarreal rounding things off for Unai Emery‘s men – coming a day after losing against Marseille in a heated game.
Friendly results ultimately count for nothing, though, and Opta’s supercomputer makes Villa the favourites to beat Newcastle this weekend.
Villa are given a 42.6 per cent chance of winning, while there is a 32.3 per cent possibility of Newcastle coming away with all three points. The draw is therefore given a 25.1 per cent likelihood of happening.
- Aston Villa win: 42.6%
- Newcastle United win: 32.3%
- Draw: 25.1%
While not exactly overwhelming favourites, those are certainly odds that Villa fans will like the look of.

Aston Villa’s head-to-head record vs Newcastle United
Villa won their most recent encounter with Newcastle 4-1 in April, which gave Emery’s men a serious shot in the arm in their hopes of landing more Champions League football.
However, the Villans lost three in a row in this fixture prior to that, going down 3-0 in December, 3-1 last January and 5-1 in August 2023.
All in all, Villa have won 60 of their 175 meetings with Newcastle, who edge the overall record with 76 wins and 39 draws.
On the basis of that most recent meeting, however, Villa have to enter this match with confidence of kicking off the season in style with maximum points at Villa Park against a direct top-four rival.
