Jacob Ramsey concerns emerge at Newcastle already as McGinn question asked at Aston Villa

Aston Villa have faced a tough battle to keep hold of their best players this summer.

Unai Emery’s side have been forced to watch from the sidelines as their Premier League rivals dominate the transfer window.

The Villans have instead put their focus on tying the likes of Boubacar Kamara down to a new contract, with Evann Guessand their headline signing so far.

Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins have been subject to plenty of interest this summer, with John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey the latest to catch the eye of their Premier League counterparts.

Newcastle asked for McGinn before Ramsey concerns

Ramsey has had a turbulent few weeks as he looked set to sign a new contract at Villa Park before attracting interest from elsewhere.

Newcastle are closing in on the signing of the 24-year-old, but have raised concerns about his injury history, according to the print edition of the Daily Mail (13 August, pg 65).

Ramsey has shown that when he remains fit, he can be a very valuable asset for the Villans.

The Daily Mail also reported that Newcastle asked about McGinn last month, before moving to sign the England youth international instead.

McGinn has been subject to plenty of attention this summer, with Everton another interested side.

However, Emery and Villa supporters alike will be keen to stress the importance of keeping the core of last season’s squad together.

Emery must keep McGinn

With the Villans exploring a move for Marco Asensio, it shows that Emery is keen to replicate his squad from last season.

However, should they re-sign the former Real Madrid star, it is important that they don’t forget players like McGinn, who have put in the hard work.

Aston Villa have already shown that they are keen to keep their best assets from last season, and despite more luck in the transfer window, supporters will be hoping they don’t stray away from their strategy.
