Aston Villa plotting sensational move to re-sign player John McGinn loves

Aston Villa are now starting to make progress in the transfer market and could be set to further strengthen their squad.

Evann Guessand recently joined as their first major signing of the summer, and he will serve as the replacement for Marcus Rashford.

Several Aston Villa stars have been linked with exits, including Ollie Watkins and Jacob Ramsey, while bids were rejected for captain John McGinn.

Villa could now go one step further in convincing McGinn to remain at the club, by signing a player whom he is a big fan of.

Aston Villa open talks to re-sign Marco Asensio

Aston Villa pulled off a coup in January when they brought in Rashford and Marco Asensio on loan, but looked set to keep neither of them after missing out on Champions League football.

The Telegraph’s John Percy has now reported via X that Villa are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over bringing Asensio back, with his move to Fenerbahce now looking unlikely.

The Spaniard has one year remaining on his contract at PSG, but the French side are open to a loan or permanent move, potentially making a deal very easy to do for Villa.

Asensio earned high praise at Villa

Asensio’s impact in his spell at Villa was short but sweet, as he quickly settled and found his form in front of goal to contribute for Unai Emery.

A match-winning brace against Chelsea was the highlight, while the 29-year-old also impressed in the Champions League.

Speaking in March, McGinn praised Asensio alongside Rashford, highlighting how he was proven at the highest level.

“Both Marcus and Marco showed glimpses which have proved they are at the highest level,” he told The Mirror.

“They have maybe lost their way for certain reasons but what they’ll get from us is love and support and team-mates who will graft for them.”

McGinn could now be reunited with Asensio, in what would be a big boost for Emery as he faces the prospect of having to develop a new-look front line at Villa Park.

Asensio will provide proven quality and may not need time to settle, having already spent a few months at Villa last season, and his experience could be vital in the dressing room.
