Aston Villa told to strike rapid Marco Asensio return as news emerges from PSG

Marco Asensio could yet find himself wearing a claret and blue shirt this season as talk of a return to Aston Villa refuses to go away.

The winger was impressive for Unai Emery’s side during a loan stint in the second half of last season, and that prompted speculation about the possibility of a permanent move.

Villa ultimately decided against pursuing the opportunity to buy Asensio earlier in the summer, but the landscape surrounding the 29-year-old has now changed.

The new Premier League season is now just over a week away, but the door is still yet to be closed on a sensational return to B6 for the PSG star.

Villa to do ‘everything’ to bring Asensio back as Enrique verdict shared

Aston Villa look as though they may have been presented with another opportunity to land Asensio, after talks broke down over his potential move to Fenerbahce.

Jose Mourinho’s side couldn’t match the former Real Madrid star’s wage demands, and it is understood that Villa are not ruling out the possibility of going back in for their former loanee.

PSG are believed to want a deal concluded quickly, as they are growing increasingly keen to get Asensio out of the door before the new campaign begins.

Ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes this leaves Emery and Co. with an opportunity that could be too good to refuse.

“I’d certainly have done everything I could to bring him (Asensio) back to the football club,” King said.

“It doesn’t look as though he’s got to be in Luis Enrique’s starting lineup, so if I were Villa, I’d be making inroads to bring him in. There’s still time for that, of course.

“He did very well last year, and he’s a top footballer.”

Asensio would be a sensible signing for Villa

Villa have had a tough transfer window so far, as several exciting links have seemingly passed them by.

However, they could certainly do a lot worse than if they were to strike a deal to bring Asensio back into the fold.

He showed promise during his stint in the Premier League last term, and the hope would be that across a full season, his experience and quality would shine through even further.

The Villans already know what to expect from the Spanish star, and that should earmark him as a low-risk, but potentially high-reward target for the latter stages of the window.
