Unai Emery has already made his feelings clear on Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey amid transfer links
Unai Emery’s comments on Jacob Ramsey from 2024 could point towards whether Aston Villa will sanction his exit this summer.
Aston Villa’s issue with the Premier League’s PSR restrictions have prevented Emery from being able to strengthen his squad, leaving the possibility of several players leaving, including Ramsey.
There have been murmurs that Villa could sell Ramsey to raise transfer funds, as the 24-year-old’s departure would be classed as pure profit.
Nottingham Forest were linked with Ramsey before Morgan Gibbs-White signed a new contract, while West Ham has been mooted as a possible destination for the Englishman.
Ramsey was an unused substitute against St Louis City, sparking speculation over his immediate future, although Emery’s past comments could suggest otherwise.

Unai Emery is a huge fan of Jacob Ramsey
In the 2024/25 campaign, the former England Under-21 international started 19 times in the Premier League, with 10 of his appearances coming from the bench.
With Villa closing in on the signing of Evann Guessand, Emery’s forward options will be even more stacked next season, which could leave Ramsey on the fringes.
Martin Allen suggested to Villa News in July that Aston Villa could sell Ramsey for £30million this summer, but if Emery has his way, he will surely remain at the club.
Speaking at the start of 2024, the Spaniard expressed his desire to keep the academy graduate at the club.
“Jacob Ramsey is a very important player,” Emery said via the Daily Mail. “He grew up here in the academy. His progression is clear and getting better. I want to keep him here with us. Teams maybe involved in the possibility to sign him, because he is a potentially big, big player in Aston Villa and England. I want to keep him here 100%.”
While the Villa manager could have changed his mind in the past 18 months, the fact that he’s predicted him to become a ‘big player’ suggests how highly he rates him.

Ramsey isn’t convinced by joining West Ham
As it stands, no club has submitted a bid for the attacking midfielder, although Graham Potter’s West Ham have registered an interest in his signature. But according to the Daily Mail, the talented player isn’t convinced by a move to the London Stadium.
The key for Ramsey is regular game time, and if Emery can guarantee him that, there is a chance he could sign a new contract.
However, failure to place him prominently in his plans could see him push for an exit later on in the window.
That being said, after graduating through the academy at his boyhood club, it would take a special offer for him to leave.
