How much money Aston Villa could now save after Bailey exit update

Aston Villa could be content to let Leon Bailey leave due to the financial incentive involved.

Villa fans have coined Bailey as a “one-season wonder” following his incredible 2023/24 campaign.

The right winger since scored just two goals in 38 appearances for Villa last season, with one of the goals coming against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.

As a result, a departure would not faze some Villa fans, especially with the financial benefit involved.

Villa will save more than £12million from Bailey’s exit

There has been speculation that the Villans could sell Bailey this summer, and it seems there is some truth to the murmurings.

As reported by journalist Matteo Moretto via X on Wednesday (6 August), Besiktas have enquired about Bailey. His poor form has already given Villa one reason to part ways, and the financial incentive provides another.

According to Capology, the Jamaican earns an estimated £120,000 per week in wages and is set to pocket £6.24million for the 2025/26 season. This would see him make £12.4m before his contract runs out in 2027.

As it stands, Bailey is in the top 10 earners at Villa and could cost the club a small fortune to potentially do little over the next two years. Therefore, the Villans could look to get the winger off their books.

Villa could beneft from Bailey’s exit

While Bailey’s talent is undeniable, he has struggled to get back to his best in recent months. As a result, an exit should be on the cards this summer.

However, it would be wise for Villa to add another right winger to their ranks before agreeing to a sale. In recent days, it has been teased that Marco Asensio could return to Villa Park.

Asensio for Villa last season

This comes after the Spaniard returned to Paris Saint-Germain upon the completion of his loan spell with the Villans. But there was an outcry among fans given his notable impact during the short period.

While Asensio prefers playing behind a striker or in a false nine position, he spent his latter years at Real Madrid and time at PSG on the right wing. Hence, his signing would give Unai Emery another option on the right flank.

If Villa accelerates their pursuit of Asensio, then Bailey should be given the green light to leave the club this summer.
