Aston Villa ready to hijack Crystal Palace transfer as Guessand update drops
Aston Villa could finally have their first win of the transfer window as they go head-to-head with Crystal Palace for Evann Guessand.
Villa’s transfer struggles have been well documented over recent weeks, but there is still hope that Unai Emery will be able to add to his side.
Profit and Sustainability rules have majorly restricted their business this summer, and are expected to cause trouble in the coming weeks, but the Villans remain resolute in adding to their squad.

Aston Villa to hijack Crystal Palace’s move for Evann Guessand
Emery’s side have been consistently outmanoeuvred in their pursuit of strengthening their squad this summer, with Manchester City notably beating Villa to the signing of Sverre Nypan.
Aston Villa have also fallen short when trying to recruit the likes of Habib Diarra and Jesus Rodriguez and have had to settle for nothing.
However, the Villans could cause some trouble of their own in the coming weeks.
According to Alan Nixon (5 August), Aston Villa have joined the chase for Nice attacking star Evann Guessand.
- Guessand scored 12 goals and assisted nine in 33 appearances last season
- The Nice forward has previously spent time on loan with Nantes and Lausanne‑Sport
- He could be a replacement for Ollie Watkins, with the striker’s future in doubt
He adds that Villa are prepared to outbid Crystal Palace for the forward.
Palace have yet to bid for Guessand, but should Eberechi Eze depart this summer, they could look at the Ivorian as a potential replacement.
Should Villa push for a deal, it could mean that a potential exit for the star striker Watkins is gaining pace.

Aston Villa must focus on keeping their best assets this summer
Watkins and Morgan Rogers have been linked with moves away this summer.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 38 | 16 | 8 |
Champions League | 12 | 1 | 4 |
FA Cup | 4 | 0 | 2 |
Given Villa’s fragile transfer position, Emery should do all he can to keep the pair at the club and potentially build next summer.
Should Villa lose Watkins and bring in a striker without Premier League experience in Guessand, they could find themselves quickly slipping down the Premier League table.
