Asensio to Aston Villa back on as most likely return route detailed after talks
Aston Villa are yet to strengthen in this transfer window, but could now look to bring Marco Asensio back.
Asensio joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in January and quickly impressed, making an impact both domestically and in Europe.
The former Real Madrid star arrived at Aston Villa alongside Marcus Rashford, but the Man United loanee has now gone to Barcelona.
Asensio was in talks over a move to Fenerbahce this summer, but a shock return to Villa could now be on the cards.

Asensio talks with Fenerbahce stalling
It was previously anticipated that Asensio would link up with Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce, rather than returning to Villa Park, but this could now change.
The Express and Star (August 5) has now reported that his talks with the Turkish side have stalled, and Villa are not ruling out a move for him.
Player | Apps | Goals per 90 |
Donyell Malen | 17 | 0.68 |
Marco Asensio | 21 | 0.65 |
Ollie Watkins | 54 | 0.43 |
Morgan Rogers | 54 | 0.28 |
Leon Bailey | 38 | 0.09 |
- Asensio scored eight times for Villa, including a match-winning brace against Chelsea.
- The winger has previously won the Champions League with Real Madrid.
Unai Emery is monitoring the situation between Asensio and Fenerbahce, and if talks collapse, Villa will be ready to pounce to bring him back.
However, any loan deal for Asensio will have to wait until late in the window if it is to materialise.
Villa are yet to replace Asensio or Rashford and they could even lose Ollie Watkins, so another loan deal for the Spaniard could be a cost-effective way of adding quality to the squad.

Villa short on attacking depth
In January, Villa’s squad was bloated as Donyell Malen also joined alongside Rashford and Asensio, and this meant that he could not even be registered for the Champions League.
However, it is a different story now, with those two key departures, as well as the lack of incomings, meaning that Villa are short of depth in wide areas.
Jacob Ramsey could also depart, making at least one addition a necessity, but funds may be limited after Villa were hit by a UEFA fine.
If a low-cost deal for Asensio can be completed, this could free up funds to strengthen in other positions, while also adding a ready-made player who can hit the ground running at Villa again.
