‘Ollie Watkins wants to go from Aston Villa’ after what Unai Emery has done

Ollie Watkins faces an uncertain future at Aston Villa and could be one of several key players to leave this summer.

The Villans have completed a handful of business, but no signing jumps out as significant.

UEFA hit Villa with a sanction, while there are PSR concerns that are seemingly affecting transfers in the West Midlands.

Watkins is reportedly on Man United’s shortlist, and it has been said that the striker wants to leave Villa Park.

Aston Villa exit mooted for Watkins

While the Red Devils and Newcastle United battle it out for Benjamin Sesko, Watkins could be an alternative for Eddie Howe’s side.

The 29-year-old has been prolific for the Villans since sealing a switch from Brentford and has made 129 goal contributions in 223 appearances.

Last season, the striker continued to shine and contributed 31 goals across all competitions for Unai Emery.

However, he and Emi Martinez have both been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, suggesting Villa will have to part with their stars.

While Watkins may be keen on a move, several scenarios must play out before such a move can come to fruition.

Former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew discussed Watkins’ situation live on talkSPORT (31 July, 6:45am).

Pardew said: “Would Watkins want to go there? I think Ollie Watkins wants to go from Villa.

“I think that the European situation last year, where he was left out, particularly for Marcus Rashford, when he was on loan to Villa.

“That would have hurt him, and I think that put a wedge between him and the manager that might actually not be removable.

“I think Ollie will go this window, but whether he goes to United might depend on where [Benjamin] Sesko goes.”

How much could Villa get for Watkins?

Losing your top goalscorer is never advised, but it seems that Emery will have to prepare for that outcome.

If he were to leave, then the West Midlands side reportedly want £60million, but that could be too steep for interested parties.

However, Sesko’s situation could drive up the 29-year-old’s price as it appears Newcastle will lose out on him.

If Alexander Isak were to depart St James’ Park, then the Magpies would be financially armed and Villa can take advantage.

Watkins may be the best possible option for Howe when this all plays out, and that £60million fee would be much more likely.
