Jacob Ramsey exit more likely after latest Aston Villa developments

Aston Villa enjoyed their first win of their pre-season schedule as they beat St. Louis City 2-1 in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Goals from Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins set Villa on their way during a tough game in St. Louis.

It was a good workout for Unai Emery’s side in the challenging heat of Missouri. Emi Martinez started the game in goal for Villa, although he was one of 10 players to be substituted at half-time.

Emery gave 22 players a run-out in total, but it’s an unused player who’s making the headlines.

Ramsey departure rumours heat up as he remains unused against St. Louis City

Jacob Ramsey is one of several players rumoured to be sold by Aston Villa this summer.

The midfield star is believed to be unhappy with the amount of playing time he received last season.

Ramsey has been connected with a move to a host of Premier League clubs, most recently West Ham United.

The 24-year-old was unused against St. Louis. Only he and third-choice goalkeeper Joe Gauci didn’t make it onto the pitch. This has led to rumours that Ramsey is being protected ahead of an imminent transfer.

Ramsey had featured in Villa’s previous pre-season games and scored a fine goal against Hansa Rostock.

Aston Villa fans have reason to worry during quiet transfer window

The move by Unai Emery to leave Ramsey out of this game signals a serious development regarding the Englishman’s future at Villa Park.

Villa fans might be calmer about these developments if there were any sign of their club signing a suitable replacement.

However, the Villans don’t even appear to be close to finalising any deals for new attacking players.

Villa have signed teenage star Zepiqueno Redmond and goalkeeper Marco Bizot on free transfers, but remain short of attacking talent.

Plus, there are still rumours surrounding the futures of key players like Martinez and Watkins.

It’s a stressful time for Villa fans, who must be tired of seeing their rivals strengthen while their squad looks weaker than last season.

They can only hope that Emery has a rabbit to pull out of his hat before the transfer window closes.
