‘I get the feeling Aston Villa are going to sell up’ as UEFA and Premier League do PSR checks

Aston Villa have had a subdued transfer window ahead of the new season.

The Villans will be fighting on all fronts, but only a handful of players have arrived at Villa Park.

Yasin Ozcan, Zepiqueno Redmond, and Marco Bizot have all signed for Villa, but none of them are considered significant acquisitions.

As for outgoings, Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez have been linked with moves to Man United as star player departures look likely.

Aston Villa given player warning ahead of Premier League season

UEFA sanctioned Aston Villa and Chelsea for breaching its financial regulations and could face a ban if they break the rules again.

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has provided insight on their spending.

“I put a bit of a warning sign on that from the outside looking in – I don’t necessarily see them being able to spend big immediately,” he said.

“I know we’ve got past that window and the sale of the women’s team will help a little bit with PSR, but they’ve just had a UEFA fine, and there’s a suspended fine on that as well for future breaches.

“So we know they’re up against it with UEFA squad cost, we know they’ve been on the radar of the Premier League as well.

“There’s only one more year of current PSR, so I do think that they’re the club that we’re all looking at as probably most at risk, and that’s been the case for a few months now with Premier League PSR.

“I don’t think that necessarily alters too much given where we are now, and even with the sale of the women’s team, I think it’s still likely for me that if they are going to be active in the market, then they’re probably going to have to sell first before they start buying again.

“We’ve seen what Chelsea have done and keep saying they can’t keep spending and they do, so never say never, but I get the feeling from the outside looking in that for Villa to be really active in terms of incomings in the market, they’re going to have to shift a couple on still as well.”

Emery primed to lose star Villa players this summer

If all the news around Emery’s side is true, then they could be set to lose some of their prized assets.

A departure for Watkins and Martinez seems the most likely, while they will be desperate to keep Morgan Rogers.

With the clock ticking, the Villans must press on and resolve the futures of their players so they can make signings of their own.
