Martinez to Man United off – Three clubs Aston Villa star could sign for instead
Emiliano Martinez could still leave Aston Villa despite Manchester United cooling their interest.
United had expressed an interest in Martinez and even made a loan offer for the goalkeeper. However, it seems a move to Old Trafford has become increasingly unlikely.
This will come as good news to Unai Emery, as Villa appear to have missed out on a potential replacement for Martinez in Lucas Chevalier.
However, there are still several clubs that could sign the shot-stopper this summer, with Villa News picking out three.

Galatasaray
As reported by The Athletic on Tuesday (29 July), United have looked at options between the sticks, but cannot progress until Andre Onana leaves.
Deterred by the cost and the prospect of a permanent transfer, the Red Devils are ruling out a move for Martinez. As a result, the Argentine will be looking for another club, and Galatasaray tops the list of possible options.
Club | Season | Appearances | Clean Sheets |
Aston Villa | 2024/25 | 53 | 16 |
Turkish sources reported earlier in the window that the Istanbul giants are interested in taking the keeper off Villa’s hands. With United out of the race, a move abroad could entice the World Cup winner.
Therefore, this could be a developing story that fans will need to be extra attentive to in the coming days.

Atletico Madrid
As reported by The Telegraph (21 June), Atletico Madrid were monitoring Martinez’s situation if Jan Oblak departed.
While Oblak is not expected to leave the Spanish club, there is a chance that Atletico returns to the charge now that United are not an option.
Martinez would serve as an excellent backup option for Oblak and could even challenge for the first string in the coming months.
It remains to be seen whether the Argentine would accept these terms. However, a new challenge could be of interest to him this summer.
Chelsea
According to several reports in France, Chelsea are interested in signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG this summer.
The Parisian club are set to welcome Chavalier to the Parc des Princes with the Italian goalkeeper already looking at other options. However, nothing is decided yet, and he could opt to remain and fight for his starting spot.
If this happens, Chelsea could look to expand their search, and Martinez could become a viable target.
