How much Lois Openda is in line to earn at Aston Villa after surprise transfer twist

Lois Openda has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Aston Villa.

The Belgian striker has hit 41 goals for RB Leipzig in the last two seasons, and is believed to be open to moving to England.

Villa have reportedly been discussing a move for Openda for several months and could be ready to make their move.

Leipzig would demand a huge transfer fee for Openda, so this move may be planned as a replacement for Ollie Watkins, who continues to be linked to Manchester United.

Lois Openda could earn a sizeable wage at Aston Villa

According to Capology, Openda earns around £95,000 per week at RB Leipzig.

He’d expect at least that amount at Aston Villa, but they’d likely need to offer him a significant pay rise to tempt him to Villa Park.

Based on Villa’s pay structure and Openda’s importance to the team if he did sign, he could expect to demand at least £130,000 a week.

That’s a fair amount for a starting striker in the Premier League, which is what Openda would likely be if he replaced Watkins at Villa Park.

It’s believed that Watkins currently earns £130,000 a week. Openda’s agent could argue that his player deserves just as much.

While Villa might argue that Openda is unproven in the Premier League, their desperation for a striker could easily see them give in to such demands.

After all, Villa were reliant on loan signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio last season, and they’re yet to replace them with less than three weeks remaining until the start of the new Premier League season.

Boubacar Kamara is now among Aston Villa’s highest earners

A £130,000 a week contract is equal to an annual salary of £6.76million, plus bonuses. While that might seem like a lot, it wouldn’t make Openda the highest earner at Villa Park.

There are currently three Aston Villa players believed to be earning £150,000 a week.

These are:

Kamara recently signed a new five-year contract to put him among the club’s highest earners.

Amadou Onana and Donyell Malen are the next highest earners at £140,000-a-week.
