Emi Martinez sends four-word message as emotional Aston Villa exit confirmed
Emi Martinez’s future has been one of the main talking points at Aston Villa this summer.
The Argentine has crafted a big reputation for himself in B6, and is now established as one of the Premier League’s finest goalkeepers.
Villa have been trying to fend off interest in Martinez for the majority of the transfer window, as Manchester United have shown a particular intent to sign the 32-year-old.
Unai Emery’s goalkeeping department could be in line for a major shake-up ahead of the new campaign, and it seems as though the reshuffle has now continued.

Martinez reacts as Filip Marschall leaves Aston Villa
Villa have been left frustrated by United’s latest approach for Martinez.
The Old Trafford outfit offered a bizarre loan deal for the star, which has understandably been met with bemusement by the hierarchy at Villa Park.
Emery had a four-strong goalkeeping unit to work with following Marco Bizot’s arrival from Brest, but his options have now been cut down following a fresh transfer agreement.
Filip Marschall has spent the last eight seasons with the Villans, but has now departed on a permanent basis to join League One side Stevenage.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, but he has now opted to step away from Villa for good to explore a fresh new challenge.
The gloveman delivered an emotional message on his Instagram account (29 July) ahead of his announcement as a Stevenage player.
Martinez was among several Villa stars to respond to the youngster’s post, as he commented: “All the best Phil.”
Marschall has made the right call to leave Villa
Marschall has undoubtedly made the right decision to leave Villa Park, despite the fact that he had an impressive loan spell in League Two last season.
Attribute | Total |
Clean Sheets | 16 (=3rd) |
Save Percentage | 70.4% (=7th) |
Saves per 90 | 2.5 (10th) |
Goals Prevented | -2.2 (15th) |
Goals Conceded per 90 | 1 (=2nd) |
Regardless of what happens with Martinez, the youngster would have still remained a long way away from playing first-team football in claret and blue, as Emery would have likely wanted to bring in a top-quality replacement.
He is now at the age where he needs to be playing regular minutes, and he simply wouldn’t have got that in B6.
By dropping down to League One, Marschall is going to be playing at a level that will test him, but will also allow him to showcase his ability with a view to working his way back up the leagues in the future.
He is certainly a bright young ‘keeper, but it would have been extremely difficult for him to break through at a club with Villa’s level of ambition.
