Aston Villa ready Morgan Rogers offer after major Chelsea transfer news

Morgan Rogers has established himself as a key player under Unai Emery.

The 23-year-old playmaker started in all but one of Villa’s Premier League games last season as they agonisingly missed out on a place in the Champions League.

Rogers had a phenomenal season individually, scoring eight goals and recording 10 assists as he became regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League.

Naturally, this form has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, but Villa are more than determined to keep their man.

Villa prepare new Rogers contract amid Chelsea interest

Emery has had multiple of his star men linked with a move away from B6 this summer, with Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez both on the chopping block.

Rogers himself has attracted interest from Chelsea, but the Villans are preparing a new contract to hopefully discourage the interest from the other sides in the Premier League.

According to The Athletic (29 July), Villa intend to offer Rogers a new contract to reflect his status as a key player at Villa Park.

Villa have outlined their desire to renew Rogers’ deal, which still has five years left to run after signing an extension in November 2024.

Discussions with the player are said to be in preliminary stages, but Villa do not want to lose the 23-year-old, who made his debut for England last year.

Chelsea and Villa could lock horns again in the transfer window

Alongside their interest in Rogers, Chelsea are also reportedly keen on bringing in Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, who is the so-called easier option to sign.

The 21-year-old Argentinian has also been touted as a potential target for Villa this summer, meaning the two clubs could be set to do battle again for the winger.

If Villa want to reinforce their position as a side that consistently competes for Champions League football, they must continue to upset the likes of Chelsea by standing firm and not selling their best players to them.

Beating them to mutual transfer targets is also a must for Villa to continue finishing in the upper echelons of the Premier League, but with Chelsea’s seemingly unlimited resources, this is easier said than done.
