UEFA restrictions could open door for Aston Villa to agree Soule transfer
Matias Soule has re-emerged as a target for Aston Villa.
Soule, 22, was targeted by Villa last summer, with Unai Emery’s side seeing a bid turned down by Juventus before they sold him to Roma.
The Argentine had a mixed season in the Italian capital, registering 10 goal contributions in 39 games as Roma endured a disastrous start before storming back up to fifth under Claudio Ranieri.
Villa need reinforcements after their winter loan acquisitions departed, while Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez are subject to interest from elsewhere.

Roma open door to Soule transfer agreement
Roma have named their asking price for their Argentine talent.
Radio Radio (27 July) have reported that Soule will cost £27.7m for any potential suitors to secure his services, with I Giallorossi saying no player is untouchable.
Villa are in the race to sign the winger, but face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for his services.
Roma need to respect financial restrictions placed on them by UEFA, meaning they cannot afford to turn down any tempting offers.
Any fee for Soule would likely be put aside to fund the acquisition of an international left-winger.
Soule would bring versatility for Villa
Soule has endured an unstable season in Rome, one that saw the capital club hire three managers before stabilising under Ranieri after being embroiled in a relegation battle.
With the legendary Italian manager now gone, there is no guarantee that Gasperini can keep the peace, so an exit would be best for the young talent.
Matias Soule stats 2024/25 | Total |
Shot-creating actions per 90 | 4.52 |
Pass completion percentage | 81.7% |
Progressive passes per 90 | 4.77 |
Progressive carries per 90 | 4.60 |
For Villa, they would be getting a player who is great at both ends of the pitch, especially with his passing and creativity, which would work well with Watkins, should the Englishman stay at Villa Park.
