Unai Emery could make baffling transfer decision amid Alex Moreno exit talks
Aston Villa have had a quiet transfer window to date, with Unai Emery only signing one player.
Nerves are no doubt high, with there being an expectation that multiple big names will be brought in to help take the Birmingham outfit back to the Champions League.
However, it appears that Villa are instead focusing on departures, with Alex Moreno now linked away.
The Spaniard spent the 2024/25 campaign at Nottingham Forest as a squad player; now he looks set to depart Villa Park yet again.

Girona seek loan for Alex Moreno
Moreno has quickly fallen down the pecking order at Villa, and talks of an exit this summer are no surprise.
According to Spanish journalist Ivan Quiros (27 July), Girona are in talks to take the full-back on loan.
The La Liga side are hopeful that they can negotiate a deal that will only pay a percentage of his wages.
If not, talks of terminating Moreno’s contract are also being considered, allowing Girona to pick up the full-back on a lower salary.

On top of the Spanish side, several other La Liga clubs are interested, with the 32-year-old willing to return to Catalonia.
However, any loan deal would be a massive error from Emery. Moreno only has one year left on his deal, which would mean that Villa would have to pay wages for someone who is never going to play for them again.
Realistically, Emery has to find a club that is willing to sign Moreno before the transfer window shuts.
If this is not doable, then Aston Villa should consider contract termination. However, given the interest in Moreno, it would be a massive blunder to do this so early.
Aston Villa have to be smarter in the transfer market
Many of Villa’s transfer dealings have cost the Birmingham outfit in recent years.
Whether it be via overpaying for a star or selling someone too early, the club has to become smarter in the transfer market.
While Moreno might be gunning for a move to Girona, Villa have to put the club first, which means seeing out the saga until the end of the window.
Simply put, if a Spanish side wants the full-back, they will have to pay for him.
