Aston Villa must make Martinez exit decision imminently after PSG development

Emi Martinez’s future is a pressing issue at Aston Villa.

Unai Emery will not be pleased with how Villa’s window has evolved thus far. The Villans have been slow to the final punch, seeing more players leave the club than fresh recruits coming through.

Ollie Watkins and Martinez are two of the more senior players who have been linked with a departure following the end of the Premier League season.

Villa need to decide on Martinez as PSG eye Lucas Chevalier

Lucas Chevalier has emerged as a top candidate to become Villa’s number one, with it suggested that Lille want around £50million for the keeper.

The Frenchman would be a perfect replacement for Martinez, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. However, there has been a twist.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri via X on Saturday (26 July), Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Chevalier and could make their move in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Villa cannot proceed with the transfer until a decision has been made on Martinez.

There has been an attempt from the Manchester club to sign Martinez, who reportedly made a loan offer at the displeasure of Villa. As a result, United could move on to another target as the Villans are said to want £40million for the World Cup winner.

However, Villa need to decide on what they’re doing with Martinez soon. If they’re going to sell the shot-stopper, they need to do it quickly so that Chevalier is still available to be signed as his replacement.

Chavalier would be a good investment

While he is yet to hit his prime, Chavalier is one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 and is tipped to become the main goalkeeper for France once Mike Maignan’s best days are behind him.

Despite not making his official debut for the French national team, his impressive performances for Lille, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, have earned him recognition.

While his performances speak for themselves, the biggest indication that Villa should invest in Chevalier is PSG’s interest.

The French giants have poached several world-class talents from Ligue 1 in recent years, including Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue. Their talent ID when it comes to the French league is top-notch, and Villa should take that as a sign to push for the goalkeeper’s signature this summer.
