Monchi sends message as Aston Villa officially agree new terms

Aston Villa have been largely inactive in the summer transfer window so far.

Following a disappointing final day loss to Manchester United that saw Villa fall just short of the Champions League, fans expected a big response in the window.

But with just over three weeks remaining until the Premier League opener, the Villans have made one senior signing, with goalkeeper Marco Bizot arriving from French club Brest.

A potential departure for Ollie Watkins could spur decision-makers at Villa Park into action, but interest in the striker appears to have dried up in recent weeks.

Monchi has been working in other areas, though.

Monchi praises key business

Despite Villa worries about the lack of business taking place at Bodymoor Heath, the Lions have managed to complete a vital summer objective.

Several of the key aims for the window actually pertained to retaining players, rather than new signings.

Morgan Rogers has attracted plenty of interest from clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea, but the 22-year-old is crucial to Unai Emery’s team and looks set to stay at Villa Park.

Keeping Rogers is a priority

The battle to keep goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is an ongoing one, but the Argentine number one is not yet close to any exit from Villa, despite reported interest from Manchester United.

One player fans no longer need to be worried about, however, is Boubacar Kamara.

In a statement (24 July), Villa confirmed that the midfielder has signed a new contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2030.

The Frenchman’s previous terms had just two years remaining, and there was fear that his head would be turned by interest elsewhere.

But a deal has now been signed by Kamara, who returned from a knee injury to make 26 appearances last season, and president of football operations, Monchi, was keen to react on social media.

In a post made to X (24 July), the Spaniard simply left claret and blue hearts to celebrate the agreement.

Kamara is key for Villa

Villa could not afford to let Kamara go this summer. The 25-year-old is an integral part of Emery’s midfield.

Acting as a shield for the defence but also capable of dribbling out of the press to build up new attacks, Kamara is involved in nearly every Villa move.

His quality would not be easily replaced, and fans of the Villans will be excited to see him enjoy a season of full fitness.
