Aston Villa could sell Ramsey for £30m as Premier League question emerges – Exclusive

This story includes exclusive opinion from football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley.

Aston Villa are braced for departures ahead of the impending Premier League season.

Despite qualifying for the Europa League, it is expected that the Villans will lose a couple of high-profile players.

Emi Martinez has been the subject of a Manchester United offer, while Ollie Watkins has also been of interest to the Red Devils.

Furthermore, academy product Jacob Ramsey has been linked with an Aston Villa exit and could leave this summer.

Aston Villa can make pure profit from Ramsey sale

Ramsey laid down an Aston Villa marker in pre-season by scoring in the Villans’ 3-1 defeat to Rostock.

It seems that Villa are ready to sell Ramsey for upwards of £30million, as his sale would generate pure profit and ease any PSR concerns, if a suitable offer arrives.

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Vila News, has provided insight on a potential transfer.

“It stacks up with everything we’ve seen over the last couple of seasons and windows with Villa, doesn’t it?” he said.

“You know that little merry-go-round of academy players that happened last summer between Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Everton were involved in that as well.

“So we’ve seen them do it before, and as I say, everything from the outside looking in suggests that they’re the ones that had the biggest question mark from the numbers that we could see against Premier League PSR, and then of course UEFA have fined them as well recently.

“It kind of stands to reason, as we say, that you’re predicting that they’re going to have to get a couple of players out to bring players in if they want to.

“If you’re going to sell academy products, then we know that the pure profit thing comes into it from a PSR point of view, and £30million would be a decent number as well if you can get all of that, and it’s an academy player.”

Ramsey could leave Villa Park, but would he be missed?

Statistically, it could be argued that losing the 24-year-old would not be an issue for the West Midlands outfit.

Last season, the midfielder scored one goal and contributed three assists in 29 Premier League appearances.

However, when Ramsey is at his best, he can be deadly, and there is always the risk that he could come back to haunt Villa, especially if he stays fit.

Furthermore, at 24, he is arguably not at his peak, meaning it could be worth holding on to him for another season.

It appears that Aston Villa have a dilemma on their hands, and finances may dictate a final decision.
