Kone spotted in Aston Villa kit as new signing quietly completed

Aston Villa are yet to make much of a splash in the summer market.

The Villans to this point have only announced one first-team signing in the shape of new number two keeper Marco Bizot from Brest.

There is every chance that the Dutchman could make his debut under Unai Emery as his side prepares to face Walsall on Wednesday (16 July).

Ahead of the clash at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium, the signing of Mohamed Kone looks to have been agreed behind closed doors in B6.

After all the financial concerns that have been on show in the Midlands this summer, it is clear that there is a new focus on bringing in young talent.

Even with the sale of the Women’s team by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, links to teenage starlets have continued to flood in.

This has most recently seen Toulouse ace Jaydee Canvot be mooted with a Villa Park move, despite no agreement being reached as of yet.

With that being said, it does appear that one youngster has been brought in on the sly without any announcement from the Villans.

This comes after ASEC Mimosas’ midfielder Kone was linked to Villa with a move looking highly likely nearly two months ago [AfricaFoot, 28 May].

Despite no announcement being made by the claret and blue outfit, the Ivory Coast’s Under-20 international was seen in images as Aston Villa Under-21s began their pre-season against Leamington on Tuesday (15 July).

Aston Villa yet to announce Kone signing

The Young Lions have become famed as one of the best academy sides across the whole of England in recent years.

This was showcased with the trophy wins in the U18 Premier League national final and the FA Youth Cup, with two huge wins at Villa Park.

The success of these youngsters looks set to continue after a 3-2 pre-season win against Leamington, but it is clear that new faces are wanted to add to the squad.

The addition of Zepiqueno Redmond has already been confirmed, with an announcement for the signing of Kone surely set to follow soon.

It is unusual to see a player feature before being named as an official player, but such is the general lack of academy coverage from Villa.
