Agbonlahor reveals abusive Man United fan message after Aston Villa claim

Gabriel Agbonlahor has taken to social media to share an abusive comment following the striker’s claim about Ollie Watkins.

Watkins has been heavily linked with a potential move to Manchester United this summer.

Aston Villa are reportedly willing to sanction the 29-year-old’s exit, should a fee deemed sufficient arrive in the coming weeks.

Watkins had been linked with a move to Arsenal in the closing stages of the winter transfer window, but Unai Emery’s attacking options had already taken a hit after the departure of Jhon Duran.

Agbonlahor shares angry response

Agbonlahor spent his entire professional career on the books at Villa, scoring 86 goals and providing 45 assists in almost 400 appearances for the club.

Now turned pundit, the ex-England international made his thoughts known about Watkins’ proposed move to United.

Speaking on TalkSport, the 38-year-old encouraged the striker to look elsewhere: “Moving to Man United is a move backwards, so I don’t get why he’d go there.

“It would say you’re choosing a team for financial reasons, not a better team!”

Watkins has established himself among the Premier League’s best forwards over the past few seasons.

Last season, the England international netted 17 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions, and in the previous campaign, the striker scored a massive 27 and won the League’s playmaker of the year award after registering 15 assists.

Watkins has thrived for Villa since arriving

Watkins has emerged among United boss Ruben Amorim’s top choices to oust the unreliable duo of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford, as the Portuguese coach attempts to revive the Red Devils from a dismal 15th-placed finish.

Agbonlahor took to Instagram on Tuesday (8 July) to share a message he had received from a disgruntled United fan.

The fan disagreed with the pundit’s verdict, and claimed that “United is on another level of aura” to Villa, along with several abusive comments.

Agbonlahor clearly found the message funny, however, and captioned the post: “Can someone tell Jack I’m on holiday. Hit the road Jack! LOL”

Agbonlahor’s verdict is correct

While Watkins may well make the switch to Manchester this summer, Agbonlahor’s comments are hard to argue against.

United are arguably England’s biggest club, yet they find themselves in a mess both on the pitch and off it.

Amorim’s ability to steer the ship back towards success is easily questioned at best, and the coach will not be aided by the uncertain leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe above him.

At 29, Watkins may be looking for one last move in his career, but he would be wise to wait for an alternative offer.
