Aston Villa pay tribute as Liverpool release statement about Diogo Jota’s death

Aston Villa have sent a message on social media after Liverpool confirmed the death of Diogo Jota.

The Portugal international has passed away at 28 years old after being involved in a car accident in Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora.

Just two weeks after getting married to long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, the forward and his brother died in a crash in the early hours of Thursday morning (3 July).

This has sent vibrations around the footballing world, with Aston Villa becoming the latest in a long line to share their condolences.

Aston Villa send heartfelt message to Jota

It is always tough to learn of any death, this one has come as a huge shock and has hit everyone in the heart, given the situation.

Just weeks after being married in Porto and having pictures taken of himself, his new wife and his three children, this news has broken.

Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region confirmed the crash had resulted in two fatalities at around 12.35am, with Liverpool now confirming the death of Jota and his brother.

As a result, it is little surprise to see messages being spread across social media and beyond as people come to terms with such a shocking event.

A message has now been released from Villa Park, expressing their sadness and support for everyone associated with the forward.

Writing on X, the statement read, “Everyone at Aston Villa Football Club would like to express their deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Diogo Jota and everyone at Liverpool Football Club at this tragic time.

The Portuguese attacker was coming off one of his better career seasons after lifting two pieces of silverware and reaching the League Cup final.
