‘Monchi to walk out on Aston Villa’ as takeover news emerges

Monchi is likely to play a key role once again at Aston Villa this summer as he works to strengthen the playing squad.

The Spanish chief has become an important figure in B6 since he was appointed as President of Football Operations in the summer of 2023, and his recruitment work has helped Villa to secure deals for several impressive talents.

Monchi’s recruitment has delivered mixed results during his stint at the club so far, but with Villa’s PSR concerns mounting up as we enter another transfer window, his work in the market could be more important than ever before.

Unai Emery will be desperate for new additions as he looks to move the team forward next term, but that won’t be easy against their current financial backdrop.

Monchi could depart Villa if Sevilla get a takeover

Despite the focus being on who can be brought in this summer, Monchi’s own Villa future has been up in the air since the conclusion of the previous campaign.

The 56-year-old has been touted for a move to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, as well as a return to Sevilla, where he has spent a lengthy part of his career at boardroom level so far.

The former goalkeeper also spent his entire playing career with the Spanish giants, and it now looks like he could be set to leave Villa Park to rejoin them this summer.

Sevilla’s current president is facing calls to step away from the club, and they are currently undergoing a potential takeover process which could have a major impact for Monchi, according to ABC Sevilla (19 June).

Former board member Antonio Lappi and his associate Fede Quintero are in contention to buy the club, and are understood to have promised to provide the funds to bring Monchi back if they gain power at Sevilla.

Villa must do everything they can to keep Monchi

Villa are likely to be treading on eggshells in terms of their PSR standing for the entirety of this window, and with that in mind, losing Monchi would be nothing short of a disaster.

He will already have numerous plans in place to outline the club’s likely business for this summer, and if he were to walk out on Villa, they would have to either find a new man to take charge of their recruitment or restructure that entire department.

Both of those would likely be lengthy processes and would provide a severe disruption to any work that the Villans want to pull off in the market ahead of the new campaign.

As a result, they must fight tooth and nail to ensure they keep hold of one of a man who has rapidly become one of the key figures at Villa Park.
