Aston Villa ‘to accept £35m Jacob Ramsey bid’ amid Newcastle transfer news
Jacob Ramsey could be on his way out of Aston Villa as NSWE look to balance the books.
Ramsey came through the Bodymoor Heath Academy, so his sale would represent pure profit for Aston Villa as they continue to combat looming PSR worries.
The 24-year-old is held in high regard by the Villa faithful, but only started half of the West Midlands’ Premier League fixtures this season.
A hamstring injury and Marco Asensio’s winter transfer window arrival contributed to the former England Under-21 international’s limited game time, with Villa now potentially set to move him on.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Ramsey
Newcastle squeezed ahead of Villa on goal difference this season to secure the all-important fifth-place finish, guaranteeing them UEFA Champions League football.
This has increased their financial capabilities this summer, and according to Sky Sports Switzerland (7 June), the Magpies are interested in bringing Ramsey to Tyneside.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
Premier League | 29 | 1 | 5 | 1,628′ |
Champions League | 10 | 1 | 2 | 391′ |
Domestic Cup Competitions | 6 | 2 | – | 272′ |
Eddie Howe is looking to provide competition and cover for Anthony Gordon, who featured in every game he was available for this season, and has earmarked Ramsey as an option.
And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that Villa would accept a fee of £35million to let their academy graduate go.
“I think Villa would accept an offer of £35m for Ramsey,” King said.
“However, he has still got two years left on his contract. Therefore, if Villa don’t want to sell him, they don’t have to sell him. However, he could help balance the books in the West Midlands.
“Villa do need to make a sale this summer because of those financial concerns hanging over them.”

Villa academy needs to step up
Ramsey’s departure would leave Villa with no academy players in their first team bar Lamare Bogarde, who joined the Villans from Feyenoord one year before his first senior appearance.
There is firm hope that Aidan Borland’s excellent season with the youth teams will see him step up to the senior side, but it still leaves the club short of a real home-grown presence.
Unai Emery’s strategy has thus far been to sign established players. However, for a club the size of Villa, more should be done to ensure youth is promoted, which the manager must make one of his priorities.
