Agbonlahor threatens to stop supporting Aston Villa if player deal goes through

Aston Villa fans will be hoping for plenty of incoming signings during the summer transfer window.

The Villans have missed out on qualifying for next season’s Champions League, and the squad looks significantly weaker after their loan players were returned to their parent clubs.

However, there’s one player that Gabriel Agbonlahor absolutely does not want to see in a Villa shirt next season.

Agbonlahor buries Chelsea’s Axel Disasi in talkSPORT rant

Axel Disasi has been linked with a permanent move to Villa Park after a loan spell there this season.

The deal would be worth an estimated £25million, according to reports. But Agbonlahor is adamant that Disasi isn’t good enough for Villa.

In a lengthy rant on talkSPORT (11 June), he even threatened to stop supporting his hometown club if Disasi signs on a permanent deal.

He said: “I’m not over his defensive display away at PSG, when he was brought on for Matty Cash. He was dreadful, ripped inside out. Also against Doku and Man City.

“If this deal happens I’m changing the team I support. No way. Send him back to Chelsea. Don’t dare come back to Villa. Terrible player.”

Disasi made ten appearances for Aston Villa during his loan spell, including three in the Champions League knockout stages.

Disasi was widely criticised for his performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, and he didn’t feature in the second leg.

But it seems that Emery remains a fan of Disasi.

Disasi isn’t the player to bring Champions League football back to Villa Park

These might sound like harsh words from Agbonlahor, especially when you consider that Disasi was playing out of position in the games that he mentioned.

He’s a centre-half, not a right back. So perhaps it’s Emery who needs questioning for lining the Frenchman up against some of the world’s best wingers.

With that said, many fans will agree that Disasi didn’t look like a Champions League-quality defender during his time at Villa Park. He looked shaky in the middle of defence at times too.

Villa do need centre-halves. It’s not as if Tyrone Mings is the man to lead them to a top-5 finish next season either.

But perhaps there are options available that aren’t Disasi.

He’s hardly set the world alight in a Chelsea shirt either, so they could at least try and negotiate a cheaper deal.

Some supporters might not mind having him as a squad player, even if it means losing Agbonlahor as a fan.
