Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers sends heartfelt message as Chelsea terms agreed

Morgan Rogers’ form at Aston Villa has understandably led to speculation linking him with a move away from the West Midlands.

Chelsea have been one of the clubs reportedly in the hunt to sign the 22-year-old forward, with a £90million transfer fee recently said to be enough to convince Aston Villa into a summer sale.

Liverpool have also shown an interest in Rogers after he scored 14 goals and supplied 15 assists in all competitions this season.

Profit & Sustainability Rules will be at the forefront of Villa’s decision-making over the course of the transfer window, with sales widely expected to allow Unai Emery to fund new signings after failing to qualify for the 2025/26 Champions League.

Aston Villa suffer major transfer blow amid PSR concerns

It remains to be seen if Aston Villa are forced to sell Rogers due to PSR.

There are other sellable assets in Emery’s squad. However, there is no doubt that some tough decisions must be made before NSWE sanctions any big-money arrivals.

Liam Delap is one player who’s been tipped to make a move to Villa Park after a stellar season in the Premier League.

Emery has missed out on him, though, as it’s now been confirmed that he’s agreed terms to leave Ipswich Town and Chelsea on a six-year deal.

Chelsea have reportedly paid £30million to release him from his contract at Portman Road after a stand-out Premier League season despite Ipswich’s relegation.

Rogers sends love as Delap says goodbye to Ipswich

Rogers is among a bunch of players responding to Delap’s move to Chelsea.

The England Under-21 international took to his personal Instagram account on Wednesday (4 June) to thank Ipswich for the role they’ve played in establishing him as one of the best young strikers in England.

“Thank you for everything, Ipswich Town,” said Delap.

“The team, manager, staff and club have been incredible from the moment I arrived.”

“To the fans, I appreciate the support you gave me week in week out, from the stands at home and on the road. I’m sure this club will be back in the Premier League soon, where it belongs.

“I’ll never forget my time at the Town!

“Now it’s time for a new challenge.”

Rogers replied to Delap’s heartfelt message with three heart emojis.

Manchester City youngster James McAtee replied by saying: “Big man.”

Lewis Dobbin, Alex Palmer, Conor Townsend, Dara O’Shea and James McClean were among the other football players to react in one way or another to Delap’s goodbye post.
