Man United make approach to sign Emi Martinez after Andre Onana news

Emi Martinez could soon complete a shock move from Aston Villa to Manchester United.

The Argentina international appears to be on his way out of Villa Park this summer after five stellar years since signing from Arsenal.

This comes as the Villans look to compete within PSR restrictions, which could see a number of high-profile departures be utilised, with the 32-year-old potentially on the chopping block.

With that being said, a move to Old Trafford will come as a blow to supporters in B6, especially after learning that contact has already been made over a deal.

Man United make contact over Martinez transfer

After losing to the Red Devils on the final day, in controversial circumstances, Villa fans were rightly fuming with the keeper.

After charging out of his goal and smashing into Rasmus Hojlund, Martinez was sent off in what could be his final action for the claret and blue outfit.

As much as this hurt the travelling faithful, it would be an even further sting if the Argentine is to link up with Ruben Amorim in the summer.

This could be on the cards after South American outlet TYC Sports reported (3 June) prior contact with the shot-stopper from Man United in the winter window.

The decision to stick by Andre Onana was eventually made at Old Trafford, but this came after weeks of discussions over a potential move for Martinez.

Less than six months later, United could reverse their decision and “go all out” to sign the Villa man if they are able to offload the Cameroon international.

Martinez to burn Aston Villa bridges amid Man United update

It is fair to say that the shot-stopper needed Aston Villa, and Aston Villa needed him when his move went through back in 2020.

The keeper was coming off the back of an FA Cup win with Arsenal, but was still likely to become the number two when Bernd Leno returned from injury.

As a result, a move to Villa Park made sense for all parties, and it is fair to say that Martinez has had huge success in reaching the Champions League in B6, while winning the World Cup and two Copa America’s.

This has seen him become an icon among the Villa faithful, something which will be ripped away if a move to Manchester United goes through.

The Argentine could stay and become a legend in claret and blue, but could make the bizarre decision to throw that away to play for the side who finished 16th last season.
