Jack Grealish has ‘perfect shirt number reserved for him at Aston Villa’

Aston Villa sold Jack Grealish for a club-record fee in 2021, but there is now a chance he makes a sensational return.

Grealish was one of the best players in the Premier League during his final season at Villa Park, before he made a £100million move to Manchester City.

Aston Villa profited and used the funds to eventually build a team which would reach the Champions League, while Grealish won a treble under Pep Guardiola.

However, it has not quite worked out for Grealish on an individual level, and he could now leave City on loan this summer after falling down the pecking order.

Grealish could take old shirt number at Aston Villa

Grealish is reportedly available on loan, and this could be a deal worth exploring for Villa as they aim to strengthen their squad.

Marcus Rashford may not return after his loan spell from Manchester United, but they do want to keep Marco Asensio.

Emi Buendia could now finally leave Aston Villa after a difficult few years as Grealish’s replacement, and he could come back to slot in where he left off.

If and when Buendia departs, his number 10 shirt will be available, and Grealish could instantly don the strip he helped make iconic with his outstanding performances at Villa Park before.

Grealish could be ideal for Aston Villa

With Aston Villa potentially needing to sell for financial fair play purposes this summer, a loan deal for Grealish with some of his wages covered could be the ideal way to strengthen their squad.

The 29-year-old can play out wide or in attacking midfield, and could serve as a direct replacement for Rashford, as well as an option in the middle.

Although he has not been at his best, a return to Villa Park could spark new life into Grealish, and if given more freedom on the pitch, he could provide a lot of creativity and a goal threat.

It remains to be seen where he will end up this summer, but the best move for both Villa and Grealish could be to reunite four years after he originally left.
