Aston Villa transfer news as Sverre Nypan update emerges

Aston Villa will have had to re-evaluate their plans for the summer transfer window having narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Champions League.

The Villans had a goal controversially ruled out in their 2-0 defeat away at Manchester United on the final day of the Premier League season and, had the goal been given, it could have changed their fortunes immeasurably.

Instead, Unai Emery’s side were forced to settle for the Europa League, which could have a knock-on effect on their transfer budget this summer.

The B6 outfit are one of several sides that have concerns over their ability to meet the Premier League’s PSR restrictions, and another season of Champions League football would have provided valuable funds to help ease those concerns.

Villa cool interest in Sverre Nypan

Those financial concerns may already be having an effect at Villa, even before the summer transfer window has officially opened.

They were hotly tipped to complete the signing of Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan back in April, having reportedly broken ahead of Arsenal in the race for his signature.

The Villans had undergone personal talks with Nypan, and there was plenty of confidence that negotiations with his club, Rosenborg, would be straightforward.

However, Villa’s interest in Nypan is now understood to have decreased, according to Norwegian paper Adresseavisen (2 June).

Their interest is believed to be fading as a result of concerns as to whether the 18-year-old is ready for Premier League football, with suggestions that he may still require more development before he reaches first-team level in England.

However, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City have retained their interest in the midfielder, with Nypan the subject of significant expectations in his homeland.

Aston Villa have cooled their interest in Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan.

Villa’s decreasing interest in Nypan is a sensible move

Villa’s decision to retract their interest in Nypan is one which makes sense, even if it will be frustrating for those connected to the club.

The youngster is tipped to go on to big things in the game, and would have represented a real coup for Emery’s men, given some of the clubs with whom they were competing to get the deal done.

However, with the Villa Park outfit expected to be fairly restricted in the way they spend their money this summer, the concerns over Nypan’s ability to instantly adapt to the Premier League surely provide logical grounds to step away from a potential deal.

Emery has done an excellent job in turning the side into one which can compete for European placings, but if that is to continue, then they must continuously add proven quality.

At the same time, their financial situation likely won’t allow them to spend money on a player who may require a loan stint before he is ready for first-team action.

That may mean that they end up losing out on a player who could go on and become a star in the future, but right now, Nypan is arguably not what they need.
