Erik ten Hag could spoil Aston Villa transfer plan over Marcus Rashford replacement
Aston Villa may not keep Marcus Rashford beyond the end of his loan spell, and are now searching for potential replacements.
Rashford joined Villa on loan from Manchester United in January, with an option to buy in his contract, but as it stands, they may not activate this clause.
Barcelona are interested in Rashford and the player is keen on moving there, meaning Villa will have to look elsewhere for a new winger to replace him.
However, Villa could now target one of Rashford’s Man United teammates, although there is competition for his signature.

Aston Villa could battle Bayer Leverkusen for Alejandro Garnacho
Aston Villa could now target Alejandro Garnacho, who has been told to leave Man United this summer by Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho has had a difficult campaign, but the 20-year-old has a lot of potential and may just need a different environment to thrive.
However, CaughtOffside (29 May) have claimed that Garnacho’s former boss Erik ten Hag could now try to sign him at Bayer Leverkusen.
Stat (Premier League 24/25) | Alejandro Garnacho |
Appearances | 36 |
Goals | 6 |
Assists | 2 |
Garnacho typically plays on the left wing, and could serve as a direct replacement for Rashford, adding a speedy outlet and a goal threat for Unai Emery if he does join.

Garnacho could be a smart signing for Villa
At 20, Garnacho has a lot of time to improve, but would arrive as a player with a lot of top-level experience under his belt.
The Argentinian has already made 144 appearances for Man United, scoring 26 times, and even netted in their victorious FA Cup final victory in 2024.
If Villa can beat the competition for him, and secure Garnacho at a reasonable price, he could feasibly be a starter for the best part of a decade.
The finances could prove to be a stumbling block though, as Villa’s failure to qualify for the Champions League could restrict their spending power this summer.
A move for Garnacho would be somewhat unexpected, but it could work out to be smart if he is able to find his best form at Villa Park.
