Tottenham defender quits to join Aston Villa in new transfer

Aston Villa face a summer of uncertainty after a controversial end to the Premier League season.

After Morgan Rogers had his goal disallowed against Manchester United, the Villans were condemned to a sixth-place finish, losing 2-0 at Old Trafford.

This means that Unai Emery’s side will play Europa League football next season, missing out on the lucrative Champions League on goal difference.

As Villa prepare for the future, they have moved to sign a player from Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Aston Villa are likely to lose some of their top players this summer in order to comply with PSR rules.

Emi Martinez waved goodbye to Villa Park in tears and could be set to move to Saudi Arabia or even Manchester United.

Another player who could depart is Ollie Watkins, who has long been admired by Champions League outfit Arsenal.

With all these potential outgoings, Villa are planning on building for the future and look set to make an acquisition.

Tottenham Under-16s defender Finlay Barnard will leave Spurs to join the Villans, according to Lilywhite Rose (29 May).

It is shared that Barnard turned down an offer from Arsenal to seal a move to Villa Park.

Villa face key summer transfer decisions

Now that Emery’s side know their immediate fate, they will be braced for offers for their talent.

Missing out on the Champions League was a cruel blow, especially as it was caused by a refereeing error at Old Trafford.

Still, all the Villans can do now is think forward and decide which of their prized assets they can afford to lose, if that is forced upon them.

As well as Martinez and Watkins, Rogers is a player who is likely to attract heaps of attention.

The winger has been in phenomenal form this campaign, with 18 goal involvements in the Premier League, which has piqued the interest of Liverpool, who are making serious moves already.

Despite the positivity of signing these younger players for the future, some big names will need to arrive to make sure Aston Villa don’t fall behind.

This is certainly one to watch, though.
