Aston Villa consider £8.4m defender transfer after latest PSR news

Aston Villa may have just missed out on Champions League football for next season, but Unai Emery is keen to strengthen his squad.

The Villans missed out on a top-five finish after a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United, which was filled with controversy.

This could cause the West Midlands outfit to face some difficulties in the summer transfer window as other sides look to poach stars like Morgan Rogers.

Nevertheless, Emery will be eager to reach the top four once more next term, knowing the key is adding to the strength of the side, hoping not to suffer too many losses.

Aston Villa looking at Diego Coppola

Although the boss may want to keep the spine of his squad intact, PSR restrictions are likely to mean Villa have to lose some players this summer.

However, supporters should be reassured that Emery is already looking at new faces to be brought into the club, which should not leave the Villans too short in their squad.

Any deals that Aston Villa do want to make need to be shrewd, though, causing the boss to look further afield than England and seeking options in Europe.

This is the case with Diego Coppola, who is set to leave Verona this summer.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (29 May), Aston Villa are interested in a move for the central defender, in a deal that would be worth £8.4million plus bonuses.

Brighton are said to be strongly pushing for the deal, though, meaning Emery’s men have competition on their hands.

Coppola could be a good addition for Aston Villa

Coppola certainly seems to be a player on his way up, having just received his first call-up to the senior Italian squad.

At just 21-years-old, gaining his services now could be a solid bit of business both for now and as a future asset to have either in the squad or to sell.

The defender has made 34 appearances in Serie A for Verona this term, also contributing at the other end of the pitch with two goals under his belt.

At £8.4m, this could be a solid signing for a good price if Emery feels his side could benefit from the youth at the back.

Brighton are the party who are making their intense interest known, though, meaning Villa may have to step up their interest if they are to land a deal.
