Harvey Barnes tipped to join Aston Villa in player-plus-cash deal with Newcastle

Harvey Barnes continues to be linked with a potential summer switch from Newcastle United to Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old has had a positive campaign as the Magpies look set to claim a spot in the Champions League for next season.

With that being said, the English winger could still be on his way out as Eddie Howe’s side, as well as the Villans, look to avoid PSR punishment in the summer.

This could see both sides arrange a deal to see Barnes move to B6 as a Jacob Ramsey verdict has emerged ahead of a potential swap in the upcoming window.

Barnes and Ramsey swap deal examined at Aston Villa

There is no doubt that it has been a frustrating two years for the Villa academy product after suffering a lengthy injury on international duty.

Since then, the 23-year-old has failed to truly impose himself under Unai Emery, with other star names taking a regular role ahead of the attacking midfielder.

This could see the Englishman become an ideal player to utilise in a PSR-related transfer, especially if Newcastle maintain interest in Ramsey.

If this deal were to be on the table, there is reason to believe that Barnes could be an ideal target for the Villans in a potential swap deal of sorts.

Despite this, former Leicester City and Brentford manager Martin Allen has been left unsure whether Villa or Newcastle would want to part ways with their star players this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Allen said: “Harvey Barnes is an excellent player, he makes goals and he gets goals.

He’s got a great attitude and is willing to get up and down the pitch to help his full-back rather than standing still on the wing. I really like him.

For him to go in at Aston Villa and leave Newcastle, Newcastle would have to get a really good player out of Villa in a swap because he’s such a good player at a good age.

Who would leave Villa? It would be hard because Villa are getting bigger and stronger, so I’d be shocked if they let any player go. Ramsey and Bailey are important players because they can come off the bench and change games.

When you need results at Premier League level, you need players who can come on and make a difference.

So if it were to be those players, they have something that would enhance Newcastle, but I’m not sure that Newcastle would actually want to let go of Harvey Barnes.

Barnes could represent point of difference at Aston Villa

It does feel as if Villa are crying out for a winger who is willing to run himself into the ground for the team while also having a direct goal threat.

That could prove to be Barnes, given how much quality he can show when cutting inside onto his right foot from the left flank.

This could add a point of difference on the left from the likes of Morgan Rogers, John McGinn and Ramsey, who prefer to drive into the centre of the pitch with the ball.

It would be interesting to see how this sort of deal could work and what Monchi would make of any negotiations moving into the window in B6.
