Morgan Rogers exit: ‘Major twist’ emerges as Chelsea eye Aston Villa ace
Aston Villa are facing up to the possibility of sustained transfer interest in Morgan Rogers from Chelsea this summer.
The England international has been a mainstay of the Villa side since signing from Middlesbrough in February 2024 and is impressive Premier League performances are attracting admiring glances.
Unai Emery’s side have more Premier League game to play this season, coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, as they look to secure Champions League football.
Villa are sixth and level on points with Newcastle United and Chelsea, but trail both on goal difference.
They will hope to avoid dropping into the Europa League and the prospect of having to sell some of their prized assets, and an interesting development has now emerged in Chelsea’s pursuit of 22-year-old Rogers.

Rogers stance emerges as Chelsea plot for Villa’s star man
GiveMeSport (20 May) are reporting that Chelsea are not put off by the reported £90million fee it could take to bring Rogers to the capital.
The Blues are said to be not put off by Villa’s reluctance to sell this summer and Chelsea could move ahead to try and strike a deal for a player who has contributed eight goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.
And in what GiveMeSport say is a “major twist”, sources have apparently stated that Rogers would be a more a viable option should Chelsea qualify for the Champions League and Villa miss out.
While no bid has yet been tabled, it is stated that Chelsea have learned Villa need to sanction one big sale to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules and if they want to sign Marcus Rashford in a permanent deal from Manchester United.

Aston Villa’s transfer market response
Emery and the Villa board are already eyeing potential summer targets, whether Rogers stays or not.
The Midlands side are said to be monitoring key targets Zepiqueno Redmond and Cristhian Mosquera, with the side trying to strike deals early.
These signings will mainly be for the future and squad depth, while the Claret and Blue target more first-team players.
This summer is crucial, with rival clubs also looking to strengthen as soon as the transfer window re-opens for business.
If Villa want to keep challenging for Champions League spots and start winning trophies, they’ll need to hold on to key players like Rogers.
Ollie Watkins has also been linked with a Villa Park exit, so Villa will want to avoid losing two such key players in one window.
However, if Villa trade wisely this summer then Emery and his side can continue to challenge for major honours at home and abroad.
