Aston Villa take major step to seal Facundo Medina transfer
Aston Villa, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are among the clubs linked with a move to sign Facundo Medina this summer.
The Argentina centre-back is currently plying his trade with Lens where he is excelling.
Along with being adept in the heart of defence, the 25-year-old is also capable of playing as a left-back.

Villa openly express interest to seal Medina transfer
According to Caught Offside journalist Ekrem Konur, Aston Villa have openly expressed their interest in signing Medina.
Marseille have already initiated discussions with Lens over the potential transfer of the defender.
Apart from that, the other clubs have merely expressed their interest but have not yet looked to begin negotiations.

It remains to be seen if Lens will be willing to sell him, but a decent bid may tempt the French club to cash in.
Konur wrote on X: “Olympique de Marseille has initiated discussions with RC Lens for the transfer of Facundo Medina. Leading European clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and AS Roma have openly expressed their interest in Medina.”
Unai Emery can get the best out of Medina at Aston Villa
The Argentine could seamlessly integrate into Unai Emery’s tactical system at Aston Villa, which emphasises defensive solidity, high-line compactness and progressive build-up play.
The Spaniard typically deploys a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, prioritising a compact mid-block and numerical midfield advantages, as seen in his use of a box midfield to dominate central areas.
Medina’s attributes suit Emery’s demand for ball-playing defenders who initiate attacks, complementing Pau Torres’ role.
His pace, agility and versatility to play left-back or centre-back address Villa’s need for flexibility, especially with injury concerns.
The defender’s aggressive defending fits Emery’s high-pressing, counter-pressing style, while his experience in Ligue 1’s competitive environment prepares him for the Premier League’s intensity.
If Villa are to sign him ahead of Marseille, they must engage in discussions pretty quickly.
