Liam Delap makes admission Morgan Rogers won’t like – ‘He’ll probably kill me’
Morgan Rogers has been a revelation at Aston Villa this season.
The 22-year-old has become a core part of Unai Emery’s squad, playing regularly in both the Premier League and Champions League.
As a result of his success at Villa Park, Rogers is already being linked with a move away, with Liverpool reportedly interested in his services.

Liam Delap puts Rogers further down the list
Aston Villa have had an exciting season and rightfully, plenty of Emery’s squad have been receiving praise for the levels of their performances throughout the campaign.
Rogers is one man who has certainly stood out, reflected by his call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad, where he justified his spot in the side.
The future certainly looks bright for the attacking midfielder, who is still so young, and Villa will be eager to retain his services for next season.
Although there is plenty of admiration coming Rogers’ way, Liam Delap has brought his former Manchester City academy teammate back down to earth.
Delap was asked by Sky Sports Premier League (9 May, 2:00) who he would choose as the best out of the academy players he has played with in Rogers, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Archie Gray.
The Ipswich striker didn’t choose Rogers at the top of his list but admitted: “I think Morgan is one of my best mates and you know, he’ll probably kill me for not picking him, but I think, obviously, it’s probably between Jude and Cole, I think.
“Played with Jude when we were growing up at England and I think what he’s doing now is incredible and I can’t really not choose him.”
Aston Villa need to keep Rogers where he is
Rogers will want to keep pushing to be his best, but surely won’t be able to have too many issues with Bellingham getting picked over him.
Furthermore, this will give the youngster a level to keep pushing to and, so early in his career, there is the possibility of reaching big levels.
The interest from the Premier League champions will no doubt be a big boost for the player, but luckily for supporters, Villa are insistent that he is not for sale.
Compeition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 34 | 8 | 8 |
Champions League | 12 | 4 | 3 |
Rogers is probably better staying put in the West Midlands for the time being anyway, as he has made plenty of progress under the management of his current boss and is likely to see his responsibilities continue to increase.
It does highlight why securing a top-five finish is so vital for Aston Villa once more, as Champions League football will serve the Villans well in the summer transfer window.
Thankfully, the 22-year-old seems happy and with his current side under no pressure to sell, Villa can enjoy his talent for at least another season.
