Aston Villa in running to sign Liverpool star amid exit uncertainty

Aston Villa are set for a huge summer in the transfer market.

Unai Emery‘s side are fighting to retain their place in the Champions League for a second successive season.

If they achieve that ambition, the squad will need significant improvement to go further than the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.

They could start by bringing in an experienced player who may fall out of favour at Liverpool.

Robertson facing uncertain future at Liverpool

Andy Robertson faces an uncertain future on Merseyside and the Villa Park club could pounce amid the doubts.

The Scotland captain admitted that he does not know what will happen at Anfield with the champions being linked with the likes of Milos Kerkez.

Speaking to Football for Change, he said: “I’ve had eight wonderful years so far, and I have a year left. I am not as young as I once was, but I love this club and I have had some great memories here, so let’s see what the future holds.”

Emery’s side could give him an alternative option and may be able to offer regular playing time in Europe’s elite competition.

The Villans are the second favourites to secure the 31-year-old’s signature in the summer window if he decides to move on.

The Midlands outfit are ranked at 13/2 with Paddy Power to sign the Reds ace, with a move to any Saudi club being the most likely outcome at 7/2.

Liverpool star would be great addition for Villa

The veteran has forged a brilliant career since leaving Hull in 2017, winning the Champions League once and the Premier League twice on Merseyside.

However, he has struggled to maintain that form this season despite Arne Slot’s side winning the title at a canter in his first season in English football.

Robertson would still be a decent addition for the B6 outfit though, especially if they qualify for Europe’s premier competition again, as he would bring experience that the majority of the squad lack at the highest level.

The fee for the Scottish ace should be reasonable considering the fact that he has just one year left on his contract, so the deal would make sense for Emery’s side.

He is still capable of influencing matches going forward and is still a solid defender and may thrive from a change of scenary after eight years in the North West.
