Agbonlahor sends sarcastic message to Birmingham after interrupting talkSPORT host

Gabby Agbonlahor has once again shown his hatred for Aston Villa rivals Birmingham City after he was asked to comment on their recent points record.

Agbonlahor is no doubt a Villa legend. After progressing through the academy, the striker remained at the club throughout his career.

During this time, he developed a habit for scoring past the Blues, with one of his last goals being against Birmingham at Villa Park.

Now, after Villa’s rivals achieved another record on their way to promotion from League One, Agbonlahor could not help but take a swipe at the club’s achievements.

Agbonlahor congratulates Birmingham on ‘having the biggest wage bill’

On the other side of the city, Birmingham have enjoyed a successful campaign in the third tier.

They won the League One title on their first attempt and broke the EFL points record on Wednesday (30 April) when they reached 108 with a game to spare.

However, Villa legend Agbonlahor was not impressed by this feat, as he noted how much the Blues had spent to achieve this, both on wages and in the transfer market.

Speaking on talkSPORT, (May 1), host Shebahn Aherne posed the question to Agbonlahor on what he thought about the record, to which the former England international did not answer.

As Aherne prepared to move on from the topic, Agbonlahor interrupted her, stating: “Were you talking to me?”

She then attempted to respond to him before Agbonlahor interupted her again to say: “Well done on having the biggest wage bill in League One and spending the most money to get out of the league. Well done.”

Could the Second City derby soon be making a return?

Despite what fans may think of Birmingham’s promotion, there is no doubt that their owners are showing ambition.

Promotion to the Premier League could soon be a real possibility, which would see the return of the Second City derby.

Villa have not played Birmingham since 2019, when both clubs were in the Championship, with the Claret and Blue side coming away with a 1-0 victory.

The return of the derby is no doubt highly anticipated, especially given Villa’s recent rise to become a Champions League outfit.

As a result, Unai Emery’s side would no doubt be expected to overcome their rivals with ease and increase their bragging rights over the Blues.

While Birmingham’s rise is no doubt displeasing to a lot of the Villa Park faithful, there may be a silver lining if the derby comes back as a result.
