Aston Villa to demand over £100m for Morgan Rogers as Chelsea verdict emerges

Aston Villa could set a high price tag on Morgan Rogers to help discourage Chelsea from tabling a bid.

The 22-year-old has arguably been the Villans’ most important player this season, showcased by his breakthrough into the senior England set-up.

This has seen the versatile attacking midfielder play a key role across the Premier League and Champions League under Unai Emery.

As a result, it is little surprise that transfer interest would emerge with a price tag potentially set to be named to turn away Chelsea in the summer.

Aston Villa in PSR discussion over Morgan Rogers

The work of Monchi last summer saw many incomings and outgoings occur to help balance the books and allow for spending.

This saw Douglas Luiz depart for Juventus and Moussa Diaby move to Saudi Arabia in disappointing but seemingly necessary deals.

A similar summer of action could be on the table at Villa Park with Rogers already linked with a move away, as Chelsea have shown an interest.

This could prove to be detrimental for the Villans, given how much of a difference the former Manchester City youngster has made this campaign.

With that being said, Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Villa could demand upwards of £100million for his signature if Enzo Maresca’s side makes a bid.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (30 April, 09:24am), he said: “When people start talking about Morgan Rogers, there are some players you just don’t sell.

“Other players you may sacrifice [for PSR], but not Morgan Rogers. What would Morgan Rogers cost now? £100m as a starter, talk about add-ons as well.

“I don’t think Chelsea, with their PSR problems, will be able to afford that.”

Aston Villa must remain strong on Rogers valuation

It has been a largely positive campaign for the Villans, but it looks likely to end in disappointing fashion if a top-five spot isn’t secured.

That wouldn’t take away from the fact that Rogers has had a special season of his own, where he has truly been a breakout star in the Premier League.

This has seen him stand out above more established the likes of Leon Bailey, who have been linked with a move away as a result.

It will be interesting to see if he can be kept hold of in the summer, as a move to Stamford Bridge has been mooted ahead of the summer window.
